How and WHY to Fully Hydrate
Let’s be honest.
Hydration is the most boring topic we’ve ever written about.
But it’s also the #1 easiest way to improve your health, life, and happiness.
Below, we’ll make the case for drinking more water & we’ll illustrate how easy it can be. Let’s begin.
Three Reasons to (FULLY) Hydrate
1. Every Organ, Cell, and Function In Your Body Depends on Hydration
You’ve all heard that the human body is ~60% water. Each tissue, organ, and cell in your body responds to hydration in some capacity, and research finds that dehydration can lead to:
Muscle cramps
Headaches
Brain fog
Feeling dizzy
Beyond those tangible impacts, we also know dehydration can have negative impacts on your mood, energy, performance in the gym, and performance at your job.
Simply put - dehydration harms every aspect of your life!
2. Hydration Is Vital For Feeling Well And Performing Optimally
Water is the best pre-workout on the market.
A properly hydrated & rested body should not need caffeine and other stimulants in order to exercise.
3. Adequate Hydration Makes Us Happier
The brain is more than 70% water, so good hydration is imperative for cognitive function and emotional health. Good hydration can also bring an inherent feeling of happiness and satisfaction.
As a simple test - drink two glasses of water the next time you feel down & upset for no apparent reason.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly your mood turns around.
So, How Much Water Should You Drink Each Day?
0.5 fluid ounces per pound of body weight as a MINIMUM per day.
Key word - MINIMUM.
At Claw Athletics, we recommend our clients drink at least half their body weight in ounces each day.
Simple Tips to Drink More Water
We want your hydration habit to be easy and convenient.
First, we recommend using larger containers for your water. We typically use a gallon jug, which allows us to stay hydrated throughout the day. (Be honest - are you really going to stand up and refill a small bottle 10 times per day?)
Second, keep your jug nearby and in-sight. That way, each time you see it, you’ll receive a visual trigger to pick it up and drink some water.
If you work a desk job, keep it on top of your desk.
If you work at a restaurant, store it at your kitchen station.
If you work from home, bring it with you in every room.
Etc.
Conclusion
Though not the most exciting topic, adequate hydration is vital for your health, well-being, and performance. Water is the essence of life. It allows our cells and organs to function, allows you to feel and perform at your best, and can even make you happier.
To make hydration simple and convenient, we recommend getting a large container of water - such as a gallon jug - and keeping it around you at all times.
Drink up!
